The spherical brood balls of Heliocopris gigas measure approximately two inches in diameter and are coated with a thick layer of clay.

Other information

Three species of mites Pelethiphis eiseleni Ryke and Meyer, Pelethiiphis vaneedeni Ryke and Meyer and Eviphis hastatellus transvalensis Ryke and Meyer are associated with Heliocopris gigas. Arrow (1951) claims that contending Heliocopris gigas males are sometimes found dead with their horns interlocked.
