Skaife (1953, quoted by Oberholzer 1958) described Onitis aygulus as laying several (about 5) eggs in a very large dung mass accumulated by the female in a previously dug spacious brood chaber. The larvae feed communally, each constructing a pupal cell of dried fibres at the end of the two-year development period.
